Elevator upgrades approved for Community Services Building
Getting to services should not be a barrier. Reliable, accessible buildings ensure residents can access the support they need safely and without disruption. Mesa County is investing in a building many residents use every day.
At the April 21 public hearing, the Board of County Commissioners approved a $429,842.48 contract to modernize elevators at the Community Services Building, 510 29 1/2 Road.
The building’s three elevators are more than 20 years old and are due for modernization to maintain safety, reliability and performance while bringing the system up to current standards.
The work goes beyond routine maintenance. The elevators will be updated to meet current ADA requirements, including new communication systems designed to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
Two public elevators and one freight elevator will be upgraded. The project is expected to take about 18 weeks, with work phased so elevators are not all taken out of service at the same time.
Mesa County selected a local contractor, allowing for faster response times if issues arise and keeping the investment within the local community.
While not always visible, projects like this play a key role in keeping public buildings safe and accessible.
